                                  Donate for Life
                                  Friends,
I would not be laboring among you had I not received a heart transplant, so this program is very close to my heart.  At a recent meeting of our committee, 2 questions were raised that I want to share with you.     The 1st was, as charitable people, many Masons and their families are already organ donors, just like they are often blood donors unless some illness prevents it.     The 2nd was, how to evaluate this awareness effort and measure it's effect on our goal, making more donations available so fewer people die needlessly.    We can accomplish both goals at once.
The Brothers who initially signed up as donors did it through the old Department of Transportation system when they got their driver's license.    That registry is still valid, but the new donatelifenewengland web site detailed in the attached letter allows you much more input into your donation decision.       If you are registered through the Registry of Motor Vehicles, would you please take the time to also register through the Donate Life New England website.      Here, you will have the opportunity to donate ‘in memory or honor’ of someone important to you.    You can also exclude organs from donation, if that is your wish.
When you register or re-register, you have an opportunity to click Club/Civic Organization, a drop down box to identify where you heard about the program.   Please click FREEMASONS listed.   Please click it, so we can evaluate our outreach.     You will receive from Donate Life New England an acknowledgment and material to talk to others about organ donation.    This is extremely valuable, as sharing your decision with family is important in making sure your donation is made once you pass on.
Please, for your community, your neighbor, and yourself, visit the Organ and Tissue Donation Registry and update or register to give the gift of life.    Go to:    http://www.donatelifenewengland.org
